Is Solvent more hard wearing than High Grade Waterbase Finish?

The myth that solvent based floor finishes wear better is not correct. Today’s polyurethane technology means that the best water-based finishes provide wear resistance superior to that of a solvent-based product – and are 100% polyurethane based without toxic fumes. Water-based finishes are a preferred choice for commercial premises due to their wear resistant properties and non-toxic composition. Minimal disturbance is required as there are no toxic fumes or health risks. Floor will not turn yellow with Waterbase Finish.

Do you fill gaps and nail holes?

On suspended floors nail holes are spot filled. Gaps between boards are not filled as it does fall out.
On floors glued on ply or concrete nail holes and gaps are filled.

What about the dust?

Our sanding process uses the most up to date sanding machines with dust extraction. However, there will still be some dust and therefore, we recommend that doors be kept closed and furniture covered where possible. Kitchen cupboards and built in robes should be considered when necessary.

All jobs are different but as a guide you can allow 30 square metres a day for sanding and coating with environmentally friendly high grade waterbase finishes.

When using the solvent based finish we recommend you vacate the house as the product gives off a toxic vapour that can take a few days to clear.

How long before the floor needs re-coating?

If the floors are looked after properly they shouldn’t need recoating for over 7 years.

When building or renovating when are the floors recommended to be sanded?

For the best finish we recommend that work is carried out in a specific order;
1. undercoating of skirting can be done prior to floor sanding
2. all tiling to be completed prior to laying timber floor
3. final coat on skirting etc to be done with care after curing time of floor
4. carpets should be laid after curing time of floors
